“After all those years I took it in high school, and for as much as I hear it around me, I feel like I should know more Spanish than I actually do.”

What if you could feel confident and comfortable enough in your Spanish to never clam up again?

“After all those years I took it in high school, and for as much as I hear it around me, I feel like I should know more Spanish than I actually do.”

What if you could feel confident and comfortable enough in your Spanish to never clam up again?

Butterfly (2) (1)

I know that you’ve been wanting to put the effort into improving your Spanish for as long as you can remember, but the task seems daunting. I mean, where are you even supposed to start?

Trust me, I get it. It’s HARD to learn a new language at any point in your life… never mind as an adult. And then, putting a full-time job and “adult” responsibilities on top of that? Yeah, there’s a lot going against you with your goal, so it’s no wonder it’s been so difficult.

Dominque (1)

Up until now, you’ve tried everything...

Rosetta Stone, Duolingo, YouTube, group classes, self-study, and maybe even a 1:1 teacher at some point.

But without the support and accountability, you just weren’t motivated to continue on your own. Not to mention that these avenues didn’t give you the road map and structure you needed, so you just gave up.

But, in the back of your mind, you know that, by putting “Learn Spanish” back on that long list of hope-to-do-one-days, you will continue to feel uncomfortable and limited in using it. You know that if you don’t commit to starting, you will just continue to fall short of your dream of truly communicating in Spanish.

After learning Spanish in my early 20s, and now teaching it to other adults,

I’ve realized there are five core reasons that cause most people to give up on Spanish:

1

Feeling overwhelmed

You’ve got apps, books, and free resources all laid out in front of you but there is just so much to learn.

2

Fizzling out due to lack of accountability.

You skip a day or two of studying but, nobody’s keeping track of your progress anyway, so you let it slide. A few days turn into weeks and, before you know it, you give up on it altogether.

3

Failing to incorporate Spanish into daily life.

You lack the tools, advice, and resources to make Spanish an enjoyable part of your everyday life which is essential to learning any language.

4

Focusing too much time on learning the wrong things

Without a road map, you just feel like you're treading water in Spanish without making any real progress.

5

Falling short on developing language-learning habits early on.

You started with a romanticized idea of learning Spanish, but then, once you got elbow deep into it, you realized that it took a lot of commitment on your part. Without a guide to teach you about how to build a language-learning habit, you just lost interest.

It’s these five pillars that, when all available SIMULTANEOUSLY, lead to the most advanced and rewarding way to finally reach the next level in learning Spanish.

And that’s why I knew I needed to create a course to intentionally incorporate each pillar to ensure your success in Spanish.

Hola! Soy Dominique

salsa dancer, world traveler, and red wine enthusiast who was standing right where you were ten years ago

Yup, ten years ago, I boarded a plane with a one-way ticket to Barcelona to learn Spanish. Later, my love of Spanish took me to Madrid and Mexico City, where my level shot up, and I got all the fancy certifications.

Looking back on those years I spent living abroad, I see now how much learning Spanish helped me spread my alas, or my wings to fly and transform into the person I am today. With my endless search for Spanish, friends lovingly began calling me La Mariposa - or the butterfly - which has stuck with me ever since.

What other students are saying...

"In all the other classes I've taken, nobody's really ever expressed, “gee, this was hard for me too, and these are some of the things I did to help me get past the hurdles.”

It was so motivating to hear Dominique’s story and know about all the embarrassing missteps she made learning Spanish. I just felt so connected to her, knowing that she struggled too and that it didn't come easy.

So tell me more about La Mariposa

La Mariposa Spanish Lessons

Friends and family gave me the nickname La Mariposa (i.e., the butterfly) after I spent years traveling the world to master Spanish. Learning the language truly gave me the wings to fly.

Hola! Soy Dominique

salsa dancer, world traveler, red wine enthusiast, and your Spanish coach behind Alas I

AG-09777

It all started when I was about a year out of college. I found myself in a soul-crushing, corporate-American job. Most days, I would sit at my desk thinking, “Is this it?” So, I decided to do something a little crazy. I sold everything I owned, packed my life into two suitcases, and bought a one-way ticket to Barcelona, Spain, to live with a host family for a year.

After taking years of Spanish in high school and college, I thought I would have no trouble navigating my way through a Spanish-speaking country. But oh, how I was wrong. I was shocked that I could barely put together a few sentences. I felt so frustrated, thinking to myself, “ugh, I should know more than this!”

I finally put my foot down and dove into learning Spanish - for real this time.

Learning a second language as an adult was hard, really, REALLY hard. But, in the end, it was SO worth it because I not only mastered a new language but gained a new identity. I now have a completely different perspective on the world and am exposed to opportunities to have meaningful experiences and authentic connections with people I wouldn’t have otherwise.

That’s why I’ve made it my mission to share what you actually need to know to communicate confidently in Spanish - without all the fluff and the noise.

I’m so excited to invite you to start your Spanish journey with me!

ERIN

Understanding Dominique's Monarch Method helped me remember that it's okay to take baby steps

I used to get frustrated with myself because my progress was so slow. But understanding Dominque's analogy of the Monarch butterfly migration made me realize that learning another language will be a lifelong journey and that I needed to celebrate my little victories each week.

Time for some real talk...

Let’s take a peek into what not joining Alas I might look like…

While you may have tons of grammar books on your shelf, piecemealing and DIYing your Spanish learning on your own is a dead-end road with no results.

Without guidance, support, and encouragement, you will continue to lack the confidence to use Spanish in everyday life because you will, inevitably, spend too much time focusing on the “fluff” instead of the tools you need to truly communicate.

But that’s not the path I want for you.

AG-09740 (1)

Between you and I - I’ve created this program to help motivated learners like YOU become intentional about learning Spanish with clear direction so that the next time you’re in a situation to use Spanish, you’re ready to speak your mind (#death to Google translate

But to progress forward in Spanish, you don’t have to trust me…

You have to trust YOURSELF.

You have to trust that you are CAPABLE of learning a second language and that you DESERVE to communicate confidently in Spanish.

I believe you’re on the cusp of having all of that ⌃⌃

And if you’re ready to take this journey together, then I’m ready to show you the way.
